Applique for a wall hanging

I have completed a little simple machine applique of 3 panels to make into a wall hanging for my niece. Each panel will be sewn on the backing as a pocket. The colour choice is pink and the theme fairies. The first one I did I used the colouring of my niece:

Then I decided to change the hair and colouring to that of her Mummy:

Then I decided that to complete the Trio I really needed the next generation up:

Grandma Fairy

The Grandma Fairy even has her own string of pearls!

Found that I got more even results by using tearaway stabiliser. Surprisingly never used this product before but very handy. Even handier are the applique scissors I got from barnyarns and were used on the Carrickmacross attempt shown in previous post. The scissors helped in the reverse applique technique used for the fairy wings.

Reverse appliqué - another piece of holiday homework inspired by the Mola work of the Cuna Indians of Panama. I am not using the traditional colours instead pinks and greens from my stash that I have been using for my other holiday applique and quilting samplers.

This is my first sample - just trying out this technique as part of my summer holiday homework. I find it is a combination of couching, applique and cutwork using crochet cotton, organza and netting. Much better examples can be found here

The heat is on to get things finished this week. First up my mirror work sample. To follow should be my landscape experimental sampler and if possible my 3D item - just waiting to use the new belt sander.....

Soggy Kitty

I cycled into work today (as part of Bike2Work week)- despite it pouring with rain. Needed to prove to myself that I could do it, 2 months ago the thought of cycling 7 miles and then doing a full days work was unthinkable but now I can and cycle home afterwards. The ride itself apart from very wet was alright: I found it a little tougher than expected, possibly because I usually cycle in the afternoon when I have woken up properly. After a nice warm shower had the best cappucino - things taste better when you have really earnt it.

Stitch Samples

Wanted to put this up as a animated gif but it kept on being converted to a jpeg by hello. so created this photo montage instead. The perverse pixie in me chose the lurid colours. Also used some of my hand dyed threads and played with the threads to see what was possible - guess thats the whole point of stitch samples.
